KUCHING: The Opening Ceremony of the First Meeting for the Third Term of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) went smoothly on Monday.
The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the ceremony at the Dataran Perbarisan DUN Sarawak, here.
Also present were Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, along with his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma'ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, and other honoured guests.
The opening ceremony began with a flag procession and Main Guard of Honour consisting of 105 men including three officers and 102 other-ranks from the General Operations Force (PGA) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jiffry Ardin, with Inspector James Rodney as the flag officer.
This Main Guard of Honour was accompanied by the PDRM band consisting of 40 personnel, led by Band Director, Inspector Frankie Billy.
After opening ceremony, the programme continued in the DUN Complex with the Head of State presenting his maiden speech.
Meanwhile, the 19th Sarawak DUN Sitting, scheduled from May 6th to May 15th, will witness the tabling of five Bills.
These include the Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill, 2024, Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill, 2024, Sarawak Ports Authority Bill, 2024, Protection of Public Health (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Out of those bills, the Sarawak Ports Authority Bill 2024 is a new bill to be tabled at this session of the Sarawak DUN. -UKASnews
