KUCHING: The strong bond between Sarawak government and the Federal government is crucial for the development agenda of the state.

Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar stated that harmonious development policies can be maintained for Sarawak’s benefit through close cooperation between Sarawak and Putrajaya.

“Sarawak requires a significant amount of allocation from the Federal government to implement various development projects and programmes.

“With this, I urge the Federal government to continue providing sufficient development funds in line with Sarawak's rights and status as a region (wilayah),” he said in his maiden address in conjunction with the opening of the First Meeting of the Third Term of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi also urged the Sarawak government to continue the efforts in restoring Sarawak’s rights as enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“The restoration of Sarawak's rights under MA63 is a matter close to my heart.

“We deeply appreciate the commitment of the Federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has established the MA63 Implementation Action Council Technical Committee (JKMTPMA63) as platforms for discussing Sarawak's demands.

“I am confident that with the close cooperation between the Sarawak government and the Federal government, all rights and demands of Sarawak under MA63 can be obtained,” he said.
