KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Sarawak remains committed to strengthening its political direction in the face of evolving global economic and technological landscapes.
Sarawak Premier and President of PBB, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, stated that this effort includes the introduction of a new Youth Wing, which for the first time participated in the PBB General Assembly as observers.
He noted that this move is essential to expose the younger generation to the party’s future plans and objectives.
“The previous leaders have charted the course for PBB Sarawak to unite both senior and new leaders in the party’s ongoing struggle,” he said during a press conference after officiating the 16th PBB General Assembly at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Saturday.
He added that PBB’s leadership, along with the state of Sarawak itself, has undergone various phases since the leadership eras of Tun Jugah and Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, followed by Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, who initiated the movement to reclaim Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Although the late Tan Sri Adenan’s leadership was brief, he raised awareness of Sarawak’s rights under MA63.
“He left behind a legacy, and I have continued his approach. We have successfully regained several powers and rights enshrined under MA63 and the Federal Constitution through cooperation with the Federal Government,” he said.
Touching on political stability, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari said that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition played a significant role in calming political instability at the Federal level.
“Since 2018, we have seen several changes in the Federal Government with the appointment of Prime Ministers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, and now Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“During this time, GPS and PBB Sarawak helped stabilise the political situation, and as a result, Malaysia now enjoys a relatively stable government that continues to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted by the people,” he added.
Also present at the press conference were PBB Deputy Presidents, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Senior Vice Presidents, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof and Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, PBB Secretary-General Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, PBB Women’s Movement Leader, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, PBB Youth Wing Leader, Datuk Martin Ben and others. -UKASnews
