KUCHING: Sarawak has a complete 'recipe' to generate 10 gigawatts of energy by 2030.

Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said Sarawak is now utilising natural resources such as hydro, solar, and biomass energy to achieve the targets set by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

According to him, the opportunity to achieve this target looks promising as the Sarawak government has allowed the private sector to venture into this energy production industry.

"I believe we will be able to achieve this target by developing and involving the private sector more actively in this field.

"One way is to convert our existing coal-fired power plants into plants powered by biomass, which is one of the green energy sources available.

"We indeed have the potential, and we need to make the best use of all the raw resources available in Sarawak to realize this," he explained.

He said this during a media interview at the 2024 Aidilfitri Open House event organised by his ministry at the Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) here on Sunday.

He, who is also the Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development II and Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment, informed that the government has now opened opportunities for the private sector to collaborate with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) in efforts to achieve this target.

During the event, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah also received a visit from Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, who arrived at 1.50 pm, alongside other distinguished guests.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Sarawak Ministers, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Federal and Sarawak Deputy Ministers, Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, Members of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, and other distinguished guests.  - UKASnews
