KUCHING: Sarawak should be an example for communities to live in tolerance and understand the diverse cultures not only in Malaysia but also globally.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said the value of integration and spirit of harmony among Sarawak's communities remain the mainstay, ensuring its continuity.

"After Syawal, I had invitations for pre-Gawai programmes, so we continue from Raya to Gawai. It means that integration and the spirit of unity among our communities continue to be assured, and remain a part of our lives.

"I think, with this integration, there should be no problem for us to live in harmony because we understand each other's cultures.

"What's important is global peace. What is happening in Gaza, in Ukraine, to some extent affects people's lives in terms of the economy.

"I believe we should set an example not only in Malaysia but also for the world in terms of tolerance and understanding, especially when we face pressures in terms of racial and religious issues. We must prevent such incidents from happening in Sarawak so that we can continue to progress," he said.

He made these remarks while speaking to the media during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri visit at the residence of the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, on Sunday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, arrived at around 10:22 in the morning and were warmly welcomed by Dato Sri Nancy and family members.

Also present during the visit were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utilities), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and his wife Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin, as well as Sarawak Deputy Minister of Energy and Environment Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni and his wife Datin Dayang Halimah Abang Paul.-UKASnews
