Datuk Abdullah Saidol Chairs The Steering Committee Meeting For SMEC 2024 & HAWANA 2024

KUCHING: Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information & UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, chaired the Steering Committee Meeting for the Sarawak Media Conference (SMEC) 2024 and National Journalist Day (HAWANA) 2024 at a prominent hotel here on Saturday.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy State Secretary (Operation), Datu Hii Chang Kee, UKAS Director, Samuel Simon, and members of the working committee for both programmes.

Participating in the meeting via zoom were the Deputy Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Communication, Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin, and the Editor-in-Chief of Bernama, Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

The two-and-a-half-hour meeting discussed various preparations to ensure the smooth running of SMEC 2024 and HAWANA 2024, scheduled to take place from May 25 to 27 in Sarawak.

With the theme 'Media Evolution in the Digital Era,' SMEC 2024 is expected to attract around 600 participants to the two-day conference starting on May 26, featuring renowned international and local speakers.

The peak ceremony of SMEC 2024 is expected to be officiated by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi will be the guests of honour during the dinner reception for SMEC 2024 on May 26.

Meanwhile, HAWANA 2024, themed 'Ethics, the Core of Sustainable Journalism,' will be attended by media practitioners from across the country, local journalist associations, and media representatives from ASEAN member countries.

The peak event of HAWANA 2024 will be officiated by the Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on May 27.

The HAWANA 2024 exhibition will also take place on May 25, at Merdeka Plaza.

Among other notable attendees expected are the Minister of Communication Fahmi Fadzil, as well as federal and Sarawak Cabinet Ministers, department heads, and other invited guests. -UKASnews
