SIBURAN: The recently completed agricultural road in Siburan is set to be a major driver of rural economic development, particularly benefiting local farmers.
Deputy Minister for Transport (Air and Road), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, stated that the RM300,000 project, funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), aims to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and enhance farmers' productivity.
“With improved road access, agricultural products can now be marketed more efficiently and quickly, which in turn helps increase farmers' income and improve the overall well-being of the local community,” he said during the official opening ceremony of the Agricultural Road and the 2023-2024 Excellent JKKK Appreciation event at Kampung Batu Gong Lama on Saturday.
He also highlighted the importance of continuous development in the agricultural sector, including irrigation systems and logistics, to ensure the long-term success of such projects and maximise the benefits for the community.
Additionally, the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) has allocated RM4 million to further strengthen the agricultural sector in the area.
Local residents have welcomed this government initiative, noting that it not only eases the transportation of farm produce but also opens up opportunities for more sustainable rural economic growth.
The event also celebrated the achievements of the community, including Vanessa Emelda Austin's success in the Women’s Sepak Takraw event at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), and recognition of Kampung Batu Gong Lama's JKKK as an outstanding community committee. -UKASnews
