TATAU: Bintulu Resident, Datu Nyurak Keti visited the Pos Kawalan Tempat Kejadian (PKTK) at Shell Tatau on Friday to monitor the ongoing search and rescue (SAR) operation for victims of a boat accident in Sangan.
During the visit, Datu Nyurak stressed the importance of safety for all personnel involved in SAR efforts, flood victim evacuations, and food aid distribution, highlighting that floodwaters in Tatau remained high that morning.
"As the flood situation in Bintulu town has improved, we will reassess our assets for deployment to Tatau, as the district is still experiencing flooding," he said.
He also praised the commitment of the Tatau District Disaster Management Committee, led by Tatau District Officer, Calvin Ligong, and thanked all agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Civil Defence Force (APM), Community Welfare Department (JKM), and Tatau-Sebauh District Education Office (PPD) for their teamwork in handling the flood crisis.
Meanwhile, Tatau District Police Chief, DSP Jame Reis said the SAR operation, which began yesterday, involves 25 personnel from PDRM, JBPM, and APM.
The mission is for a 69-year-old man, Lila Jali from Antau Sait longhouse, who remains missing after his boat capsized in Sungai Anap on Wednesday.
