KUCHING: The aspect of air quality needs to be prioritised in efforts to elevate Kuching's position as one of the cleanest cities in the world.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the Sarawak government is taking an approach focusing on traffic flow and vehicle mobility to reduce air pollution.

"To maintain our city's position as one of the cleanest, Sarawak is the only state prioritising the use of environmentally friendly fuel, namely hydrogen.

"Our public transportation uses clean fuel, and we hope that vehicles used in Sarawak also adopt the cleanest fuel according to government directives," he said.

He made these remarks while speaking at an Aidilfitri gathering of the Kuching City North Council (DBKU) at a prominent hotel here on Friday.

The Sarawak Premier added that the use of Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) is also an eco-friendly approach, providing public transportation that does not harm the environment.

"I hope DBKU and the Kuching South City Council will identify and constantly communicate with the people about the importance of having public transportation that does not pollute the air.

"This will further elevate our position as one of the cleanest cities in the world for the long term," he said. -UKASnews
