KUCHING: ICOM Square at Jalan Pending is set to become one of the new attractions in town, with various efforts being implemented this year.
Chairman of the ICOM Joint Management Body (JMB) 1, Dato Patrick Liew said that since the establishment of the JMB on July 13 last year, it is the responsibility of both bodies to further enhance the appeal of ICOM Square.
“We at all levels of the committee have always been of the same mindset and intend to do something voluntarily to support the properties here because most of us are property owners in this area.
“So, it is in our interest and responsibility to develop this place to be one of the best attractions in Kuching, so that the public has more choices of places to visit,” he said.
He said this during a press conference after the Lion Dance performance in conjunction with the Chinese New Year Celebration at ICOM Square, here, on Wednesday.
According to Dato Patrick, one of the problems often raised in this area is the lack of parking spaces, driving visitors away and further worsening traffic flow.
He continued, the JMB will look for a solution in the near future including adopting 'Pay&Go' technology to smooth the flow of traffic and make it easier for visitors to come.
"We have been addressing these issues since taking over JMB, where by March 1 or the first week of March, we expect to implement the 'Pay&Go' system as part of the traffic system here.
"We will also ensure reasonable payment rates for the public and tenants here because our goal is not to make a profit, but to provide convenience to those who do business here and to the public," he added.
Commenting on today's programme, he said that the Lion Dance performance was the first to be held, and it was clear that there would be many more performances and decorations themed around festivals such as Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak, Christmas and other occasions to attract more visitors. -UKASnews
