KUCHING: The 'Pasar Malam Belia N6 Metrocity 2' night market has been proposed as a new tourism destination, aimed at fully promoting the area to both local and international visitors.
Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, stated that the night market has become a popular attraction for visitors to Kuching, especially those seeking local delicacies.
With its new, larger site and improved facilities, it has the potential to draw even more tourists.
"This night market is already a key attraction for visitors to Kuching. I have suggested to the organisers to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, as well as the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, to market this location as a tourism hotspot in the Kuching area," he said during an interview with reporters after officiating the new site of Pasar Malam Belia N6 Metrocity 2 on Saturday.
Additionally, the Petra Jaya MP emphasised that efforts would continue to upgrade the market’s infrastructure to ensure both comfort and safety for visitors.
"The first priority is to build a surau, secondly, to fence off the market area, and thirdly, to standardise the structure of the market stalls to ensure they are functional in all weather conditions, whether rain or shine.
"This will provide comfort for the traders to carry out their business and for visitors to enjoy their time at the market," he added.
However, Dato Sri Fadillah mentioned that he and Tupong Assemblyman, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman are still in search of a permanent location for the market, as the current site is only a leased area with a 10-year tenure.
