KUCHING: The Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR) Complex, built at a cost of RM80 million at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here, stands as a symbol of the inclusive policy of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who inspected the progress of the project on Thursday, described it as highly significant and meaningful.

"The project has now reached 96.38 per cent completion.

"Although it is 0.33 per cent behind the actual schedule, we are satisfied with the progress of the project," he said when met by the media.

He also expressed confidence that the contractors will be able to resolve the issue and complete it before September.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also the Minister responsible for UNIFOR, said the UNIFOR Board of Trustees has been actively monitoring the progress of the project.

Furthermore, he said there is an agreement regarding the project completion period with the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, which will allow the Occupation Permit (OP) to be issued no later than the first week of September.

"In addition, those interested in renting space in the complex can also come for inspection.

"But UNIFOR will relocate first and make adjustments in September or October to operate next year," he explained.

Regarding the need to widen roads in the area, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said that the matter will be studied.

"I believe there is a need for wider roads due to the development in this area.

"We now have the Dayak Cultural Foundation, the headquarters of the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the headquarters of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association here.

"There are also other large private buildings to be constructed in the future.

"So, the widening of these roads need to be considered," he said. -UKASnews
