SERIAN: The Sarawak government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of flood victims relocated to Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) across the region, ensuring that all essential services and aid are provided without delay.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, emphasised that comprehensive support—ranging from food, bedding, and healthcare—has been made available at every PPS to secure the comfort and well-being of evacuees.
"Essentials such as mattresses, blankets, pillows, and food are fully supplied at our centres. In addition, healthcare services are promptly provided to those in need.
"For instance, this morning, health officers reported that two elderly evacuees at PPS Dewan Ranchan became unwell and received immediate medical attention from the on-duty medical team," he stated during a media briefing following his visit to the centre on Saturday.
As Chairman of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Datuk Amar Douglas added that relief efforts are also being extended to isolated villages.
"Kampung Merakai, for example, is far from this PPS and has been cut off by the floods. Today, the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM) will deliver food supplies directly to the residents there. We will continue to monitor the situation in other villages, and should conditions deteriorate, evacuation orders will be promptly issued to ensure safety," he explained.
Following his visit to PPS Dewan Ranchan, Datuk Amar Douglas proceeded to PPS Kampung Melayu in Balai Ringin to personally assess the needs of evacuees.
Currently, the flood relief operation at PPS Dewan Ranchan shelters 220 evacuees from 59 families, while PPS Kampung Melayu provides refuge for 100 people from 28 families.
The state government remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting flood victims, pledging ongoing assistance until normalcy is restored.
Also in attendance were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) and SDMC Deputy Chairman, Datu Buckland Bangik, Sarawak Police Commissioner, Dato Mancha Ata, Serian Division Resident, Caroline Cleophas Joseph and other officials involved in the relief efforts. -UKASnews
