KUCHING: The Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (MUT) and its agencies are on high alert to swiftly manage and restore services as severe flood continues to impact various parts of Sarawak.

To address service disruptions, agencies under MUT including Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Water Supply Agencies, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), and other telecommunication providers have deployed technical teams to flood-affected areas.

Its Minister, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi reassured the public that both electricity and water supplies remain stable despite the temporary shutdown of some substations and water treatment plants (WTP) in flood-affected areas.

For the record, SEB has shut down several substations in heavily affected areas to prevent electrical hazards.

The worst-hit locations include Miri and Bintulu in the Northern Region, Sibu, Selangau, Kapit, Mukah, and Sarikei in the Central Region, as well as Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian in the Southern Region.

Additionally, excessive water levels at intake points have forced the temporary shutdown of several WTP, including Selangau WTP, Ng. Sekuau WTP, and Labang WTP.

Telecommunication services have also been disrupted in Bintulu, Marudi, Miri, Mukah, Selangau, and Serian.

Despite these challenges, the agencies under MUT are closely coordinating with relevant authorities to expedite recovery efforts and restore services as quickly as possible.

The Ministry urges public cooperation and patience during this challenging time and will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.

Residents are also advised to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. —UKASnews
