SERIAN: a total of 148 roads throughout Sarawak have been affected by the massive floods that hit the region over the past five days.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said, of this total, 75 roads faced erosion.
Meanwhile, three areas experienced damage to roads while four areas saw damages on the Pan Borneo Highway (PBH), including the one that occurred in Ranchan.
Following that, e, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, asked the sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to be cautious and quick to restore these roads for the safety of road users.
"We request that our Public Works Department officers ensure that the roads that have been cut off are restored as soon as possible," he said.
He said this at a media conference after a visit to the Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) of SK Tanah Merah and Serian Community Hall here on Friday.
Meanwhile, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah praised the Sarawak JKR's rapid action in repairing Temlat Road in Sibu within six hours, allowing the road to be used, primarily to help deliver necessities to the pps area during this flood season.
The SDMC Chairman's visit to two PPS found that the number of households transferred to the SK Tanah Merah PPS was 75 households involving 251 victims.
Meanwhile, the number of households transferred to the Serian Community Hall PPSincreased to 64 families with a total of 218 victims.
Earlier on, during the visit to SK Tanah Merah PPS, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rubiah Wang also accompanied Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.
Meanwhile, during his visit to the Serian Community Hall PPS, he was also accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development and Kedup Assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben, Tebedu Assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada, Bukit Semuja Assemblyman John Ilus, heads of departments and other government officials. -UKASnews
