MIRI: Minister for Transport (MOTS), Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, visited several flood-affected areas in Miri on Thursday afternoon, including Permyjaya, Desa Murni, Desa Senadin, and Tudan.

During his visit with the Miri Disaster Management Committee team, he instructed immediate action to address the flood issues, as some areas remain submerged despite improving weather conditions.

“In Tudan, the situation has improved as the main roads are no longer flooded, but houses in low-lying areas are still affected.

"Meanwhile, in Permyjaya, Desa Indah, Desa Pujut, and Desa Senadin, several main roads are still covered with water,” he said.

Dato Sri Lee also directed Miri City Council (MBM) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to inspect drainage systems, including large drains that might be clogged, on Friday.

“I have requested MBM and DID to clear blocked drains or modify drainage structures that could be blocking water flow.

"DID must also check smaller rivers like Sungai Adong and others to ensure smooth water flow, as clogged rivers can disrupt the housing drainage system," he added.

Additionally, he emphasised the need to clear flood debris and waste, especially in Desa Pujut, to restore safety and cleanliness in affected areas.

Dato Sri Lee, who is also the Senadin Assemblyman, urged local authorities to take swift action to expedite flood drainage and minimise the impact on residents.

Also present during the visit were Councillor Jeffrey Phang, Penghulu Nasir Rahim, Miri Resident’s representative, Melisa Labut, and Miri District Office representative, Edward Tawang. -UKASnews
