KUCHING: Numerous bridge projects overseen by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) are anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.

According to JKR Sarawak Director, Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. Dr. Cassidy Morris, two bridges, namely the Marudi Bridge and the Batang Lassa Bridge, have already been completed, with an additional ten expected to follow suit.

He credited this progress to the unwavering commitment of the Sarawak Government in implementing infrastructure projects for the betterment of the rakyat.

“These achievements reflect the empowerment provided by our Sarawak Government.

“What makes this especially rewarding is that we are accomplishing these projects independently, relying on our own resources, funding, and expertise through JKR Sarawak. That’s what matters most, we are doing it ourselves,” he said during an exclusive interview on the ‘Juh Randau’ programme produced by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) on Tuesday.

Sarawakians stand to benefit from a series of bridge projects implemented by the Sarawak Government, including the Batang Rambungan Bridge, Sejingkat Bridge, Sungai Lingga Bridge, Batang Saribas 1 Bridge, Batang Saribas 2 Bridge, Batang Lupar 2 Bridge, and Sungai Limbang Bridge and Sungai Bunut No. 2 Bridge.

Among these initiatives, Dr. Cassidy highlighted the construction of the monumental Batang Lupar Bridge, spanning 4.8 kilometres, which is poised to be the longest river-crossing bridge in Malaysia.

To ensure efficient and timely delivery of projects, JKR Sarawak has leveraged on the advancements in technology, such as employing artificial intelligence (AI) monitoring systems in the construction of the Jepak Bridge.

“We are using real-time cameras to monitor progress, allowing us to track the number of workers on-site. This approach helps improve work quality and safety practices,” he added.

In addition to embracing AI technology, Dr. Cassidy said JKR Sarawak also conducts regular site visits and safety inspections to minimise risks and ensure smooth project execution. -UKASnews
