KUCHING: Yayasan Sime Darby will continue to implement various high-impact projects in Sarawak through several industries aimed at benefiting communities across the region.
Its Chairman, Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar said to date, Yayasan Sime Darby has channelled a total of RM60 million to Sarawak through its foundation, with the three largest contributors being Sime Darby (SD) Guthrie, Sime Darby Berhad, and Sime Darby Property.
“Our three contributing companies are SD Guthrie, formerly known as Sime Darby Plantations, Sime Darby Berhad, a corporate conglomerate, and Sime Darby Property.
“They are our financiers, and through this foundation, we have channelled RM60 million into Sarawak, focusing on areas such as education, the environment, community health, sports, as well as arts and culture.
“These are what we call our main pillars,” he said.
He told reporters when met after a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at Menara Pelita here on Monday.
Tunku Tan Sri Imran further stated that Sarawak holds significant potential for enhancing collaboration with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals working diligently at the community level.
He emphasised that Yayasan Sime Darby is keen to continue being a partner to NGOs, helping to finance their efforts and contributing to the community in Sarawak.
“Once they are able to stand on their own, they can move forward with subsequent projects. Sarawak is indeed a state with immense potential.
“We are confident that the community here will respond positively,” he added.
Also present were Yayasan Sime Darby Governance Council Member, Datu Dr. Rashidah Bolhassan, Yayasan Sime Darby Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yatela Zainal Abidin, and Yayasan Sime Darby Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs, Muzdalifah Mohd Nasir. -UKASnews
