KUCHING: The Graduates Enhancement Training Sarawak - Work Readiness Programme (GETS-WRP) is launched to empower Sarawakian youths with the skills and experience needed to face today’s employment challenges.
Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel said this initiative by the Sarawak government aims not only to produce competent youth, but also to prepare them to be more competitive and innovative.
"By equipping our graduates not only with technical and professional skills but also with the right mindset and good work ethics, we are shaping a generation of leaders who will drive Sarawak's growth and prosperity,” he said when speaking at the launch of GETS-WRP at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Wednesday.
The ceremony was graced by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah who is also the GETS-WRP Committee Chairman added that through this initiative, the Sarawak government can help graduates secure meaningful employment and bridge the gap between academic qualifications and industry requirements.
“Seize this opportunity to challenge yourself, acquire new skills, and gain experiences that will shape your future.
“Remember, the skills you gain here will not only benefit you but will also contribute to the development of our state at a higher level,” he said.
In the recent Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari announced an allocation of RM23 million to assist 1,000 graduates under GETS-WRP 2025.
It is understood that the programme will consist of three intake sessions, which are in January, April, and July this year, targeting Sarawakians aged 20 to 30 who are currently unemployed and hold a degree with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.8.
Also present were Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Ministers, Sarawak Attorney General, Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, SCOPE Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Lim, heads of departments, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
