KUCHING: A delegation from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) led by Director-General, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, paid a courtesy visit to Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanus, at Astana Negeri Sarawak on Friday.
The visit aimed to address key road safety and operational issues relevant to the state, with a focus on the approved implementation of JPJ Sarawak's road safety activities, programmes, and operations.
Datuk Aedy Fadly outlined several initiatives that JPJ will be spearheading in collaboration with various enforcement agencies and stakeholders.
"We are planning nationwide operations that will focus on commercial vehicles, including technical inspections and other enforcement actions in collaboration with agencies such as the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and other relevant bodies," he stated during a media briefing following the courtesy call.
Datuk Aedy Fadly also highlighted ongoing discussions with highway concessionaires to implement point-to-point surveillance cameras, a new technology proposed by Federal Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, aimed at enhancing road monitoring efforts.
He noted that most of JPJ's operations had commenced last year, with this year's efforts concentrating on the technical safety of commercial vehicles and other forthcoming initiatives.
Addressing concerns over the tragic road accident at Jalan Stutong Baru last Tuesday, Datuk Aedy Fadly remarked that investigations were ongoing under police supervision.
However, he emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility.
"Ensuring road safety is not just the duty of enforcement agencies but also of parents and guardians, who play a crucial role in safeguarding their children's safety on the road," he added.
Accompanying Datuk Aedy Fadly during the visit were JPJ Senior Director of Enforcement Division, Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, Sarawak JPJ Director, Norizan Jili, Sarawak JPJ Deputy Director, Nor Azlan Ibrahim, and Special Officer to the Director-General, Nur Fazreen Khalid, among others. -UKASnews
