KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Supreme Council has officially agreed for the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 to feature a total of 488 events which are scheduled to take place from August 17 to 24.
Of the total, 236 are men's events, 217 are women's events and 35 are mixed or open events for the 37 types of sports contested where it was decided in a meeting chaired by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh.
Each event must see a minimum participation of athletes from six states for it to be contested.
The 21st edition of the SUKMA Games will be held in nine Divisions throughout Sarawak, namely Kuching with 25 types of sports, Samarahan (2), Serian (1), Sri Aman (1), Betong (1), Sibu (3), Mukah (3), Bintulu (3), and Miri (6) to ensure that the excitement can be felt by the people throughout Sarawak.
The organisers have also identified five main Sports Villages to accommodate the athletes from the 15 competing contingents, which are Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in Kota Samarahan, Kolej Laila Taib in Sibu, UiTM Campus Mukah, UPM Campus Bintulu and IKBN Miri.
Meanwhile, among the other matters decided by the Sukma Supreme Council in the meeting on Tuesday is that a total of 108 overlapping athlete registrations have been resolved by the National Sports Council (MSN) and the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Secretariat through a mutual agreement between the State Contingents involved.
Also, the Sarawak Secretariat has set the 100-Day Countdown before SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 to be held on May 9, and it will be officiated by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg. -UKASnews
