Sarawak Delegation Explores New Frontiers In SAF Production

SINGAPORE: A Sarawak delegation led by Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel participated in the launch of the production test rig for carbon dioxide and hydrogen to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Jurong, Singapore with the Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment, ISCE2 and IHI Corporation.

According to a statement today, the event showcased advanced SAF technology which has the potential for a transformative role in the global energy transition.

Accompanying the Deputy Sarawak Secretary were Permanent Secretary to the Sarawak Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty), Datu Abg Ahmad Abg Morni, MEESty Head of Energy Division, Dr. Nurleyna Yunus, Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) Chief Executive Officer, Chew Chang Guan, and MEESty Head of Corporate Development and Economy Division, Dr. Kho Lip Khoon.

“The delegation’s visit aimed to assess the feasibility of production technology for carbon dioxide and hydrogen to SAF in Sarawak, leveraging the state’s abundant resources to tap into the growing global demand for sustainable fuels.

“This engagement also included discussions with IHI Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. to explore collaboration and investment opportunities,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah said the potential for SAF aligns well with Sarawak’s vision of driving sustainable economic growth while contributing to global decarbonisation goals.

The adoption of SAF technology would advance Sarawak’s commitment to sustainability and enhance its position as a leader in the green energy sector, reflecting its dedication to achieve a low-carbon future. -UKASnews
