Sarawak Drives Malaysia-Japan Cooperation In Ammonia Production

KUCHING: Sarawak is expected to be a key leader in Malaysia and Japan's efforts to develop green energy through ammonia production using hydrogen as a base material.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said this strategic initiative is planned to be finalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries thiscoming May.

According to him, Sarawak will play a significant role in the collaboration, in line with the state's vision to become a green energy hub in the region.

"Alhamdulillah, the Japanese Prime Minister has asked Sarawak to work together to produce ammonia which will use hydrogen as a raw material.

"In May next year, Malaysia and Japan will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation between Japan and Malaysia where Sarawak will play an important role on behalf of Malaysia," he explained.

He said this during the Eight-Year Townhall Session with the Sarawak Premier 2025 at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) here on Monday.

Previously, Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced that this initiative would involve collaboration between Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS). -UKASnews
