KUCHING: The next leader who will take the reins of leadership in this region needs to study the current economic landscape to continue Sarawak's excellence and legacy.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the leaders who will succeed him need to know the fundamentals of the economy which are always changing with time.

"This means that later, they need to constantly update themselves with current knowledge that is in line with changes.

"When I became Chief Minister, the first thing I introduced was the digital economy where I had read, which said that this is the second life of all mankind," he explained.

He said this during the 8-Year Townhall session with the Sarawak Premier 2025 held at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) here on Monday.

He added that future leaders must be diligent in increasing their knowledge to find economic resources that are in demand worldwide, especially in facing global issues such as climate change at this time.

According to him, in-depth knowledge in this matter allows Sarawak to find space and opportunities, by leveraging available resources to explore new economies such as hydrogen.

In this regard, he called on future leaders to continue to study the opportunities available to further enhance Sarawak's economy.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Sarawak and Federal Cabinet Ministers, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak and Federal Deputy Cabinet Ministers, heads of departments and other dignitaries. -UKASnews
