DARO: Rural communities in Sarawak now do not need to rush to register for the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS), as the Sarawak Government has planned a roadshow campaign throughout this year to help with the registration process.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, assured that government agencies and Service Centres will travel to the interior to ensure that all those who are eligible receive this assistance.

"This campaign aims to ensure that no group is left out, especially those in rural areas.

"This effort is in line with the Sarawak Government's commitment to empowering the people through the digital economy," he said during a press conference after the Launching Ceremony of the New MySRBN Coverage at Pulau Bruit, Daro, on Sunday.

Datuk Abdullah also informed that for applications that are rejected, people can submit an appeal, as long as they meet the requirements such as having the 'K' indicator on their Identity Card.

He stressed that the development of digital infrastructure, including internet coverage in rural areas, is one of the main reasons for introducing SKAS in the form of digital vouchers.

“This measure will not only facilitate the purchase of essential goods but also educate the rural community about the importance of digital technology in daily life,” he added.

The introduction of new MySRBN coverage in Pulau Bruit, which is part of this initiative, is expected to accelerate efforts to digitize rural areas.

“With the convenience of MySRBN, the community now has easier access to the internet, making the SKAS registration process smoother,” he explained.

He stressed that this mission will not only assist in registration but also improve the digital literacy of the people, in line with the Sarawak Government’s vision to make digital technology a part of daily life.

In the press conference, Datuk Abdullah also called on the people to cooperate with the roving team and take advantage of the facilities provided.

“The government is committed to ensuring that SKAS assistance reaches all those who are eligible, regardless of location,” he said.

With this comprehensive effort, Sarawak continues to prove its commitment in championing the well-being of the rural people through a digital and innovative approach. -UKASnews
