SIBU: Sibu is set to make history as the first area in Sarawak to have a 700-metre elevated road.
This project is part of the construction project of a new road connecting Teku Pasai Siong to Kemuyang.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that this project marks an important achievement in efforts to improve land transport access in the state.
“This 700-metre road will be an elevated road and the first of its kind in Sarawak.
“The need to build this elevated road was once mentioned by the Sarawak Premier, and now it has become a reality,” he said when speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Teku Pasai Siong to Kemuyang Road, Sibu on Saturday.
Commenting further, he also stated that the construction of this elevated road is an important step to overcome various obstacles in the Sibu area.
“We need to take a new approach such as the construction of this elevated road. For example, travelling from Sibu Airport to the city sometimes takes a long time.
“With the elevated road, we can improve the smoothness of transportation and reduce travel time,” he added.
The project is estimated to cost RM89 million and uses the latest technology such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) to ensure a stronger and more efficient construction structure.
