SIBU: The Sejambak Kasih programme underscores the Sarawak Government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the underprivileged.

Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK), Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah highlighted the programme's goal of bringing joy to monthly aid recipients from the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) during the festive season.

“The Sarawak Government ensures that no one is left behind.

“This is our commitment to safeguard their welfare,” she said during the event held at a hotel here today.

Additionally, Dato Sri Fatimah announced that all attendees of the event received hampers alongside RM100 ‘angpau’.

For those unable to attend, the amount will be credited directly to their accounts.

According to her, there are 8,135 Chinese monthly aid recipients in Sarawak, with 1,819 based in Sibu.

In 2024, a total of 56,044 monthly aid recipients were recorded, amounting to RM258,491,300 in financial assistance.

Also present during the event were representative of the Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Councillor Paul Teo, Deputy Director of the Sarawak Social Welfare Department, Norhayati Abdul Rahman, representative of the Sibu Resident, Sharifah Lailatul Mubarakah Wan Lili, and Sibu District Officer, Wee Teck Min. -UKASnews
