KUCHING: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) remains committed to the development of youth in the region.
Its Chairman, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this commitment is being realised through fostering strong relations with youth organisations in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah.
“We are constantly in close contact with the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM), the largest youth body in the country, to strengthen our ties.
“At the same time, we are discussing the various challenges faced by young people.
"SABERKAS is also exploring ways to collaborate in the development of youth across Malaysia, whether in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, or Sarawak,” he said in a press conference following a courtesy visit by a delegation from MBM led by its President, Mohd Izzat Afifi at Bangunan Baitulmakmur here on Tuesday.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim added that the visit provided an opportunity for both parties to get to know each other better.
He noted that one day, these young leaders will emerge as key state leaders or at the national level.
“That is why we encourage relationships like these, and this is not the first time they have visited.
“They have attended the Sarawak Youth Day and sent representatives to our SABERKAS general meetings here as well,” he said.
During the same press conference, Izzat announced that MBM would continue its visits to Sarawak, building on the success of last year’s initiative.
Last year, MBM brought a youth delegation to the areas of Daro and Kedup, engaging with local youth and supporting a national integration programme.
For 2025, Izzat expressed his intention to expand these plans with a larger-scale programme in Sarawak.
“We aim to visit at least five areas in Sarawak this year to strengthen our engagement with the youth in the state.
“That’s why we are here, meeting with the President of SABERKAS to discuss our plans for the year, as well as other programmes under SABERKAS,” said Izzat. -UKASnews
