SPAOH: Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas wants folks in the rural areas to be wary of phone calls from unknown numbers or individuals who propose attractive money or profit making ventures to them.
"These are scammers and they are also reaching out to folks in rural areas as well.
"I have been told of cases of such happenings, notably the parcel scam," he said.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah was addressing a gathering at his longhouse Rh Mendit Unsu in Penom on Sunday before officiating the launch of the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) for the Bukit Saban constituency.
The centre, which costs about RM400,000, is a project of the Federal Ministry of Communications, implemented by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission.
It is one of the four under the Betong Parliamentary consituency.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said that members of the public must not be easily taken in by any investment proposals or offers promising great profit in return.
"Scammers are coming up with many scams to swindle you of your money or savings."
He advised any victim to lodge police report if they had been affected.
On the centre, he said relevant training courses on online commerce, e-sports, skill training, and even basic IT skills like reading QR codes, would be introduced there.
During the function, the Deputy Sarawak Premier accompanied by Betong Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, presented approval letters to more than 30 recipents for agricultural projects from the Betong Division Development Agency(BDDA).-UKASnews
