KUCHING: A total of 417 dogs were successfully vaccinated at an anti-Rabies vaccination programme, jointly organised by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), at the Taman Desa Wira Community Hall here, on Saturday.

Assistant Environmental Health Officer of MPP, Sumi Linggi stated that the programme will be conducted again next month, covering the areas of Landeh, Matang, Batu 7 (Matang), Batu Kawah, and Puncak Borneo.

"We also urge dog owners who live outside MPP’s jurisdiction to join and benefit from this programme. They are welcome as well," he said.

He also informed that there is a subsidy for the neutering or spaying of dogs amounting to RM150 per dog.

This is limited to 50 female dogs for each programme, to those who have registered their dogs to be licensed with MPP, and dogs that have been vaccinated.

"Once the quota is filled, we will open more slots for the next programme. So, it's on a first come, first served basis.

"Usually, veterinarians or private clinics will charge fees based on the weight of the dog. For dogs weighing between 20 kilograms (kg) to 30 kg, they will charge around RM250.

"Under our programme, with the subsidy for neutering provided, dog owners only need to cover the remaining amount," said Sumi. -UKASnews
