KUCHING: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg has allocated RM110 million to the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) for the year 2025.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that this funding will enable UNIFOR to carry out its duties in constructing or renovating more houses of worship and maintaining mission schools.
He added that this year alone, UNIFOR has assisted 242 different houses of worship with an expenditure of RM90 million, while an additional RM20 million was allocated for mission schools.
“This is a much welcomed Christmas gift for Christians and a most anticipated New Year gift for all the rest,” he said in his Christmas and New Year’s message on Tuesday
As the minister responsible for UNIFOR, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah emphasised that this allocation reflects the Sarawak Government's continuous commitment to social inclusivity under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) administration, a unique hallmark that Sarawakians can take pride in.
He also took the opportunity to wish all Christians a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
“It is the most wonderful time of the year when Christians worldwide gleefully celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and look forward to the coming New Year with more hope, blessings, and joy,” he said.
He added that in Sarawak, Christians and followers of other non-Islamic religions have another significant reason to feel optimistic and joyful as 2025 approaches.
“Have a blessed, joyful Christmas and a very happy and prosperous New Year and the best of health to all from my family and me,” he concluded. -UKASnews
