KUCHING: The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has intensified flood mitigation efforts in 18 areas identified as flash flood hotspots.

These areas are prone to flooding during heavy rain, especially during the monsoon season.

According to DBKU Mayor, Dato Helmy Othman, key locations under close attention include Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi, Lorong Kamaliat, Lebuh Cloud Estate, Jalan Pinang Jawa, Taman Million, and Kampung Pasir Pandak.

"Over the past three months, DBKU has carried out intensive drainage maintenance to ensure smoother water flow," he said.

He said this during a press conference following the Flood Preparedness Site Visit and Flood Disaster Management Operations at DEPO @ DBKU on Tuesday.

Additionally, Dato Helmy highlighted that regular monitoring is being conducted in these areas to identify the root causes of the problems and to develop long-term solutions.

"We are working closely with the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to implement technical solutions, including drainage system repairs and the installation of water pumps at critical locations," he added.

He also mentioned that logistics and equipment such as lorries, backhoe loaders, and mobile lights have been prepared to assist with rescue operations if necessary.

DBKU is optimistic that these ongoing efforts will minimise the risk of flooding, thereby improving the comfort and safety of residents in frequently affected areas.

The public is encouraged to report any flood-related issues through the hotline at 082-446644 or via WhatsApp at 016-8864466. -UKASnews
