KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak will go undercover as express bus passengers to monitor drivers and ensure they comply with road regulations.
Deputy Minister of Transport Malaysia, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, said this initiative aims to ensure passenger safety by monitoring the behavior of drivers while traveling.
“We will place spies or ‘spies’ in the bus to observe drivers.
“This is to ensure that they do not use mobile phones while driving, change drivers when there should be a driver change for the specified distance and do not drive beyond the allowed time limit and do not speed,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters at the Road Safety Advocacy Programme in conjunction with the 2024 Christmas Season at the Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal, here on Friday.
Meanwhile, Datuk Hasbi stressed that strict action will be taken if there is a violation of the rules.
“If the spies find any violation, the bus will be stopped immediately and appropriate action will be taken.
“The company is also responsible for ensuring that the journey can continue by changing new drivers if necessary,” he added.
According to him, this operation is not only carried out during Christmas but also during other festivals such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
In fact, he hopes that this measure can be practiced throughout the year.-UKASnews
