KUCHING: The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar received a courtesy call from Pertubuhan Turath Sarawak at the Astana Negeri Sarawak on Tuesday.
The visit aimed to introduce the association and its newly established committee members, formed in March 2024, to Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi.
According to its Chairman, Khalid Khan Abdullah Khan, the visit also served as a platform to present the organisation’s initial activities since its inception.
“Since its formation, we have implemented two main programmes, which were in Miri last June and the latest in Mukah, including the Oya and Balingian areas.
“These programmes involved activities at mosques and suraus, including dialogue sessions with mosque and surau committees,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters following the courtesy visit.
He further added that the organisation’s main objective is to strengthen the understanding of ‘Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah’ within the community, in line with efforts championed by government agencies and the Islamic Religious Council.
“We work together with religious authorities. So far, we have engaged with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and are planning future collaborations for upcoming programmes,” he added.
Regarding current membership, he noted that membership remains limited, but promotional efforts are actively being carried out to attract more participation.
Khalid added that for next year, Pertubuhan Turath Sarawak is planning larger-scale programmes targeting various segments of the community, including asatizah, the general public, youth, students, and other focus groups, aim to further enhance religious understanding and spread beneficial knowledge to the community.
With proactive steps and strategic collaboration with relevant agencies, the association aspires to be a catalyst for promoting harmonious and comprehensive religious understanding in Sarawak. -UKASnews
