TOKYO: The Sarawak Government is exploring new collaboration opportunities with the renowned Boeing Japan in the aviation sector as well as on the research and development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said this initiative aligns with Sarawak’s efforts to establish its own airline.

According to him, Sarawak is actively working on the development of SAF as an alternative fuel for the aviation industry through joint research with Chitose Group and its collaboration with ENEOS Corporation (ENEOS) in hydrogen production.

"We had discussions earlier with Boeing Japan, which presented several proposals as they are a key player in advancing aviation technology with Boeing aircraft.

"They have partnerships with Boeing Singapore and a broader network in Southeast Asia. Today, we are exploring opportunities for collaboration between Boeing and Sarawak as we move forward with plans to establish our own airline," he said.

He said this when met by UKAS and TVS following discussions with the President of Boeing Japan, Eric G. John, at Boeing Japan headquarters here, on Tuesday.

However, the Sarawak Premier added that the potential collaborations in development and research are still in the early stages.

"We will continue to explore what we (Sarawak and Boeing) can achieve together, particularly in SAF and renewable energy," he added.

Accompanying the Sarawak Premier in the discussions were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, and Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni.

Also present were Sarawak Attorney General, Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, and other senior Sarawak Government officials. -UKASnews
