Sarawak Premier Arrives In Tokyo For Five-Day Official Work Visit

TOKYO: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg has safely arrived in Tokyo, Japan today for a five-day official work visit.

He and his delegation from the Sarawak Government arrived at Haneda International Airport, Tokyo at 6.15 pm local time via a special plane.

Welcoming him at the hotel were the Malaysian Ambassador to Japan, Dato' Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Sarawak Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Also welcoming the Sarawak Premier were Sarawak Attorney General, Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and senior Sarawak Government officials.

On the first day, the Sarawak Premier is expected to pay a working visit to the ENEOS Central Technical Research Laboratory.

As a company that supplies 20 percent of Japan's primary energy, ENEOS aims to make next-generation energy such as hydrogen, synthetic fuels and biofuels the 'future norm' to achieve a carbon neutral society.

He is then expected to attend several meetings with ENEOS Corporation and JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Sumitomo Corporation, Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan.

The Sarawak Premier's official working visit continued on the second day with a meeting with Boeing Japan regarding Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and related development and research.

Next, he and the Sarawak Government delegation held meetings with HighChem Co. Ltd, Integrated Design & Engineering Holdings Co.Ltd. (ID&E), Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsui OSK Line before attending the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bintulu Development Authority and Pertama Ferroalloy/ Asia Minerals.

Entering the third day of the official working visit, the Sarawak Premier and his delegation will visit Tokyo Gas Yokohama Techno Station which is a model facility for the local production and use of hydrogen and e-methane, as well as a CO2 circulation model, and disseminated throughout Japan.

On the fourth day, the Sarawak Premier and the delegation will conduct a working visit to the Mitsubishi Power Takasago Plant.

The hydrogen park is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to validating hydrogen technology to assist in the global decarbonisation process and is the first facility in the world to cover the entire hydrogen chain: production, storage, and use.

The hydrogen park also houses advanced systems, including large-scale electrolysers and next-generation technologies such as solid oxide electrolysis and turquoise hydrogen production, which produce hydrogen without CO₂ emissions.

These innovations are being tested with hydrogen-powered turbines, advancing the commercial competitiveness of hydrogen as a sustainable energy source.

The Sarawak Premier is expected to conclude his official working visit on December 20 before departing for home. -UKASnews
