KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) has received positive feedback for hosting the 2025 New Year countdown event in Sibu for the first time.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, stated that the event provides an opportunity for Sibu residents and those in the central region to celebrate the occasion on a grand scale, even though the state-level celebration has been announced to take place at the Kuching Waterfront.
“Kuching and Sibu are far apart, so this is a good initiative. At least the people in Sibu can also enjoy the festivities.
“I might have objected if MOTAC had chosen a location near Kuching, but since it’s being held in Sibu, I think it’s a great decision,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after attending the musical theatre Dreamweaver at the Old Courthouse Auditorium on Wednesday.
Also present was Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
For the record, Sibu will host MOTAC’s 2025 New Year countdown celebration from 27th to 31st December at the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre in Sibu Jaya.
At the state-level celebration in Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim recommended top-notch performances featuring renowned singers and a fireworks display to enliven the Kuching Waterfront.
He expressed hope for favourable weather on 31st December to ensure the smooth running of the grand event.
“To the people of Kuching, Samarahan, Bau, and Lundu, do come and join the celebration with an amazing lineup of artistes who will captivate you,” he added. -UKASnews
