KUCHING: Sarawak is proposing to impose conditions on businessmen or investors wanting to migrate to the state to deposit at least RM2 million or purchase real estate of not less than RM1.5 million.

Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof said, many businessmen from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah are interested in migrating to Sarawak following the business and investment prospects in the state.

According to him, one of the conditions to obtain permanent resident (PR) status in Malaysia is that the applicant must make an investment in this country.

"Therefore, I want to propose this condition to the Premier of Sarawak, considering that we will have our own bank in the future.

"At least this way, we can generate more income for our state and at the same time, they can also get PR status in Sarawak in addition to helping to develop our state and country," he said.

He spoke to officiate the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri programme organised by the Satok Constituency Zone 4 Segedup and Sungai Maong Sub-branches at Dewan Haji Kamarudin, Kampung Segedup here, on Saturday.

In the same speech, the Petra Jaya Member of Parliament informed that the Federal government has formed a committee to look into the costing and design for the construction of the Sarawak Cancer Centre.

This follows the agreement reached to build the center using Sarawak government’s allocation first, he said.

"The steps taken by Sarawak prove that the income and political landscape in this state are very stable.

So, the government can focus on developing the state for the wellbeing of the people.

"Only Sarawak is able to do that. No other state government has given loans to the Federal government, Sarawak is the only one," he added.

Earlier, Dato Sri Fadillah inaugurated the Village Library of Kampung Segedup located near the hall.

Also present were Satok assemblyman, Dato Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Abang Izmawi Abang Ali, Kuching Divisional Unity Officer of the National Unity and Integration Department, Rose Jonathan Garau, Heads of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Segedup and Sungai Maong Sub-branches, Councillors Samsudin Sapri and Abdul Halim Mohamad, and others. -UKASnews
