The Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), Premier’s Department of Sarawak, conducted project verification visits to several locations around Kuching.
The visits were led by YBhg. Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau, Director of UNIFOR, together with the UNIFOR team to observe the current condition of the sites and review the facilities available at each location. The visit also allowed UNIFOR to assess existing facilities and identify areas that may be considered for assistance in the future.
Also present during the visit were YBhg. Dato Dr Simon Poh, Archbishop of Kuching, together Fr. Eugenio Gocela Maglasang and Fr. Vincent Chin. During the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to tour several churches as well as the Carmelite Monastery. The delegation was also briefed on the daily life of the nuns at the monastery, including the preparation of the holy bread and their spiritual way of life.
Among the locations visited were:
* Carmelite Monastery
* Holy Trinity Church, Kenyalang Park
* Chapel of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Bintawa
The visit also provided an opportunity for UNIFOR to better understand the needs at each location and to hear directly from the church representatives regarding possible areas where support may be considered. Quantity Surveyors (QS) from the Public Works Department (JKR) also joined the visit to provide technical insights on site requirements and possible improvement works.
At the end of the visit, YBhg. Dato Director received a birthday surprise from YBhg. Dato Dr Simon Poh, Fr. Vincent Chin and the church committee members as a gesture of appreciation and remembrance of the visit.
