'Sarawak Youth Start-Up' To Develop Youth Entrepreneurs, Gather Various Government Agencies |
KUCHING: The 'Sarawak Youth Start-Up' programme brings together various ministries and agencies of the Sarawak and Federal Governments, including all entrepreneur development agencies under the state and federal governments. According to the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, this programme is not only a platform for youth to gain knowledge in the field of entrepreneurship but also acts as a 'supplier' to the ministries and agencies involved. "We become a supplier where we train these entrepreneurs to be handed over to the government agencies involved because each ministry has its own entrepreneur programme. "For example, the Sarawak Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development (M-Ficord) has an Agropreneur programme, so we at 'Sarawak Youth Start-Up' will nurture them before handing them over to M-Ficord for skill improvement," he said. He said this in a 'Sarawak Youth Start-Up' press conference at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex on Friday. The Lambir Assemblyman added that his ministry also did not rule out the possibility of creating a youth 'Start-up' hub after seeing the success of such a hub in South Korea known as 'Pangyo Start-up Hub'. In the meantime, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat said that a total of 80 people have participated in Sarawak Youth Start-Up so far today. Therefore, he called for youths aged 18 to 40 years who are interested in participating in entrepreneurship to participate in the Sarawak Youth Start-Up with 300 people being the target for the programme later. Applications for the Sarawak Youth Start-Up will close on November 25 with the program running from December 7 to December 14. - UKASnews |

Meluan Needs CPPC, Increase Pepper Commodity Value |
KUCHING: The Meluan constituency area needs a Collection, Processing and Packaging Centre (CPPC) to act as a storage centre for pepper products for residents in the area. Its representative, Rolland Duat Jubin said, the pepper plant in the Meluan area is one of the best in Sarawak as a result of the skill, quality of the soil and water resources in the area. Therefore, he said, the construction of CPPC in this area is very appropriate to consider in order to raise the value of Sarawak's pepper commodity. "I am requesting a special project from the government to build a warehouse for them to process and store their pepper because right now they are still processing their produce at home. "I would also like to suggest that a research and development (R&D) facility be established here to explore better and more efficient technology in processing white pepper cream that can achieve a very high price," he explained. He said this while debating the Supply (2025) Bill, 2024 in conjunction with the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting on Friday. In order to further increase the commodity value of this pepper plant, he proposed to conduct a study to obtain the 'Protected Geographical Indicator' (PGI) to preserve and recognise the quality of small farmers from this area. Strengthening efforts in this direction, Rolland also applied for RM10 million from the farm road construction fund announced by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg to develop a farm road in the Meluan area which will benefit pepper and oil palm growers. - UKASnews |

NCR Land Measurement Programme In Ngemah Needs To Be Expedited |
KUCHING: The perimeter survey of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land in the Ngemah constituency needs to be expedited so that it can be used to improve the socioeconomics in the area. Ngemah Assemblyman Anyi Jana said that Ngemah is a rural area that is still thickly covered with forest and land owned by residents that has not yet been measured. "It is hoped that the completion of the NCR land survey work can be used to the maximum extent to produce agricultural products in order to improve the local socio-economics, increase household income and at the same time reduce the extreme poverty of the people of Sarawak, especially in rural areas." He said this when debating the Supply (2025) Bill, 2024 at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting on Friday. He explained that the measurement of the perimeter of NCR land needs to go through Section 6 of the State Land Code (KTN) which is a community measurement before being measured under Section 18 of the State Land Code for the issuance of individual titles. However, he said, the current problem is the issue of overlapping claims for NCR land ownership between the residents and the private companies that develop the land either for logging or agriculture purposes. It is further complicated by the issue of ownership disputes between family members and relatives which contributes to the delay in issuing land title deeds to individuals. - UKASnews |
