BELAGA: The Sarawak Government through the Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU) is developing a holistic and comprehensive system to enhance the recruitment process of foreign or non-resident workers in Sarawak.
According to Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, the Foreign Workers Transformation Approach (FWTA) will serve as the primary platform for local employers to advertise job vacancies in their companies, giving local job seekers the opportunity to apply for these positions in Sarawak.
“With FWTA, we aim to implement an efficient system to ensure proper regulation of foreign worker recruitment in Sarawak.
"The Sarawak government has also agreed to amend the Sarawak Labour Ordinance (SLO) to align with the International Labour Organisation conventions and the latest amendments to the Employment Act 1955 (Amendment 2022), which was passed in Parliament in March 2022. This Act came into effect on January 1, 2023, benefiting both employers and employees,” he said.
He said this during the Appreciation Ceremony for Penan Community Workers (Metalun) with Danum Sinar Sdn Bhd held here, on Thursday.
Earlier this year, the Sarawak Government requested an extension for the implementation of the Labour Recalibration Program (RTK 2.0) until June 30, 2024.
Meanwhile, verification and issuance of Temporary Employment Passes were extended until September 30 and December 31, respectively.
Also present during the programme were Murum Assemblyman, Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, Belaga District Officer, Bidah Lujah, Belaga District Police Chief, Jimbai Bala, Principal Assistant Director of the Sarawak Labour Department Bakun Branch, Edwin Eddy, and other guests. -UKASnews
