Sarawak Secures Major Investment In Polysilicon Production From OCI Holdings

SEOUL: Global chemical company, OCI Holdings is committed to expanding its production in Sarawak with a potential reinvestment value of RM3.1 billion in polysilicon for photovoltaic use. 

According to Chairman of OCI Holdings, Lee Woo Hyun this expansion to Sarawak is expected to create 400 direct employment opportunities.

Currently, OCI Malaysia Sdn Bhd (OCIM) has invested over RM8 billion in Sarawak to produce polysilicon for solar industries. 

“OCIM will further expand and diversify its production in chemical materials in Sarawak,” Lee said during a meeting with Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who led a Sarawak delegation. 

The meeting was held at OCI Holdings in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday.

OCI Holdings is a global chemical company producing polycrystalline silicon, hydrogen peroxide, and other chemical-related materials. 

Lee also expressed OCI Holdings’ interest in exploring potential investments in power development, particularly renewable energy in Sarawak, through its subsidiary OCI Energy. 

Datuk Amar Awang Tengah welcomed Lee’s proposal, highlighting Sarawak's commitment to becoming a leader in green energy. 

Their participation in green power development will enhance the energy security of Sarawak while contributing to sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship.-UKASnews
