BAU: The first phase of the upgrading project for the dual carriageway from the Bau-Lundu junction to Bau Town is expected to be completed by June 2026.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo said the project, which commenced in February, involves upgrading the existing single carriageway road to the R5 standard of the Public Works Department (JKR) to a dual carriageway of the U5 JKR standard, spanning 3.65 kilometres with a total contract value of RM74 million.
"This dual carriageway is almost equivalent to the Pan Borneo Highway, and it connects directly from the Pan Borneo Highway to Bau Town.
"However, the work is currently experiencing some delays due to issues such as utilities, including water supply, telephone electricity poles, and numerous residential structures affected by the ongoing road construction," he said.
Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo mentioned this in a media interview during his working visit here, on Wednesday.
He also believes that JKR is working diligently in coordination with the Land and Survey Department and utility agencies such as Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Telekom Malaysia, SACOFA, and the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to address the main issues.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport, Dato Henry Harry Jinep, Serembu Assemblyman , Miro Simuh, and Opar Assemblyman, Billy Sujang. -UKASnews.
