LAWAS: The Sarawak Government remains committed to ensuring that the state’s road connectivity and infrastructure are maintained at the highest standards.

Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said these efforts also serve as a key driver of the state’s socio-economic development.

“This is not only crucial for ensuring the safety of road users, but it also acts as one of the main engines of socio-economic growth for the people and the state.

“A variety of initiatives have been and are being implemented in stages. These include the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway, which connects Sarawak’s major towns more smoothly and efficiently, as well as the building of major bridges to replace ferry services,” he said.

He made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme for the N82 Bukit Sari constituency, held here recently.

The MyLesen Driving Licence Assistance Programme, organised by the Lawas District Road Transport Department (JPJ), has benefited 948 individuals who successfully obtained their Class B2 motorcycle licences.

The Bukit Sari Assemblyman also advised participants to be disciplined and ethical drivers.

“With a licence in hand, you are not only driving legally but also protecting yourself and others.
“Our lives are not ours alone, they belong to the people we love,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Transport Malaysia, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, said the MyLesen programme is a government initiative to assist low-income (B40) groups in obtaining driving licences at minimal cost.

This enables them to benefit from RON95 fuel subsidies and drive legally on public roads.

“This programme not only improves mobility for the people but also opens the door to greater benefits within the national subsidy system. With this licence, participants are now recognised as lawful and responsible road users,” he said. -UKASnews
