BINTULU: The Disaster Relief Life-Boosting Programme, organised by Malaysia LNG Sdn. Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of PETRONAS, is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative focused on community development and well-being, aimed at assisting those affected by disasters.
Through this programme, MLNG has provided donations such as personal hygiene kits and basic school supplies to about 325 residents of Rumah Ugop Umpin, who experienced a fire on the morning of June 2, 2024.
The donations were handed over by Minister of Commodities, Food Industry, and Regional Development of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi and Mohamed Syazwan to Tuai Rumah Ugop, representing all 43 units of the longhouse.
Dato Sri Dr. Stephen mentioned that the Social Welfare Department (JKM) is currently working to gather data on the fire victims of Rumah Ugop Umpin to ensure that all affected individuals receive the necessary aid and no one is left out.
“At the same time, JKM has also provided donations such as clothing, tents, dry food, and cooking water.
“Follow-up assistance from JKM includes RM5,000 for building materials per household, RM200 for daily clothing per person, RM200 for school clothing per student, RM100 for school supplies per student, and RM100 in cash per person.
“The Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) set up by the police at SK Kuala Sigu is now empty as the victims have returned to their families in town or moved to temporary accommodations in the Ugop longhouse,” he added.
He also emphasised the importance of safety awareness when using gas stoves.
"This year alone, Sebauh has recorded four fires involving longhouses.
“I hope the Fire Department can provide support through safety programs on the use of fuels, including gas stoves,” he said.
Also present during the programme were Bintulu Resident, Nyurak Keti, Sebauh District Officer, William Manggoi and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia LNG Group of Companies, Mohamed Syazwan Abdullah @ Laga Jenggi. -UKASnews
