KUCHING: Sarawak is set to strengthen its position as a regional leader in digital innovation and green technology when the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2025 (IDECS25) returns with the theme “AI & Green Evolution: Growth, Challenges, and Community Resilience” from 22 to 23 October at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The eighth edition of the conference will be officiated by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, and is expected to gather more than 4,500 participants, including industry experts, policymakers, innovators, entrepreneurs, environmental organisations and knowledge communities from Malaysia and abroad.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said the hosting of IDECS25 reflects the state government’s commitment to aligning digital economy development with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

“We are not only focusing on technology itself, but also on responsible applications that ensure a sustainable future for our communities and our planet. IDECS continues to act as a catalyst for regional collaboration, as well as a platform for integrating strategic policies with real-world progress,” he said during a special IDECS25 press conference at Menara LCDA on Friday.

Among the main topics to be discussed are AI-powered economic development, smart cities, digital governance, circular economy, sustainable development, and biotechnology.

The conference will also feature renowned international speakers, including James Barrat, Dr Ayesha Khanna and Dr Justin Cohen.

A key highlight of IDECS25 will be the National Bioeconomy Showcase 2025 (NBIOSHOWCASE), organised by Bioeconomy Corporation under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The showcase will present biotechnology innovations and bio-based products, including solutions for global challenges such as food security, healthcare and the circular economy.

IDECS25 is jointly organised by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sarawak Information Systems (SAINS), with Bioeconomy Corporation as a strategic partner.

Its main sponsors include Huawei, Insights Analytics Berhad, ZTE, MDEC, TERAJU, Yayasan Peneraju, SAINS and ZUS Coffee. -UKASnews
