KAPIT: The Kapit District Council (MDK) has been reminded to uphold transparency, integrity, and timely delivery of development projects as it continues to play a vital role in driving grassroots progress in the division.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Law & Customs), Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who officiated the opening of the council’s third quarter Full Council Meeting on Friday, emphasised that councillors must remain sensitive to public complaints, work as a team with civil servants, and ensure that Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects truly benefit local communities.
“MDK has shown commendable commitment, but this performance must be sustained and strengthened. Every project must follow specifications and timelines because the people of Bukit Goram depend on these initiatives to improve their livelihoods,” he said.
Held at the council’s Level 3 meeting room, the meeting also highlighted the importance of diversifying MDK’s income sources through improved revenue collection and small-scale commercial initiatives, so that the council can carry out additional community-oriented programmes without depending solely on government allocations.
Earlier, Datuk Jefferson joined council members and staff in a group photo before receiving a briefing on the agenda and community issues from Chairman Ir. Andy Lawrence.
He was later presented with a token of appreciation to mark the occasion.
Also present were Kapit District Council Deputy Chairman, Cr. Martin Bilun, Acting Secretary, Opang Melay, councillors, and local department heads. -UKASnews
