KUCHING: The honorarium or training allowance for athletes participating in the Para SUKMA Sarawak Games 2024 has been increased starting this May.

Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said, the honorarium for Pelapis A athletes is now RM1,200, while Pelapis B athletes will receive RM1,000. However, the honorarium for elite athletes remains at RM1,500.

Additionally, Pelapis C athletes will be paid RM800, and new athletes undergoing training will receive RM600.

"This honorarium serves as an allowance for Para SUKMA Sarawak athletes throughout their training period.

"Apart from the Para athletes, their coaches also receive allowances, and the rate remain unchanged," she said when met by reporters after observing the Para athletes training sessions for swimming and athletics at the Kuching Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Dato Sri Fatimah also mentioned that the state government will provide incentives to Para athletes who win gold, silver, and bronze medals.

She did not disclose the specific incentives that will be given but confirmed that the allocation for this purpose has been submitted. -UKASnews
