DARO: Pesta Daro 2025, one of the district’s flagship events on the tourism calendar, once again demonstrates the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to strengthening the rural tourism industry, which is rich in cultural heritage and natural charm.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said his ministry fully supports high-impact programmes such as Pesta Daro, which not only promote domestic tourism but also generate economic opportunities for the local community.
"Sarawak is very active in hosting various events and festivals. Every week, there is bound to be a celebration or programme happening in one district or another. This not only energises the tourism sector but also brings direct economic benefits to the people,” he said during his speech at the lively opening ceremony on Saturday.
Elaborating further, Dato Sri Abdul Karim noted that the Sarawak Government has tabled the highest state budget in Malaysia for 2025, amounting to RM15.8 billion.
He said a significant portion of that allocation is being channelled into infrastructure development and public facility upgrades, including those that support the growth of rural tourism.
Pesta Daro 2025 features a wide array of exciting activities such as cultural performances, local product showcases, traditional games, water sports, government agency exhibitions, and concerts by guest artistes – all of which have drawn enthusiastic crowds.
This year’s edition of the festival is expected to attract thousands of visitors from within and beyond the district, contributing significantly to the growth of the tourism sector and enhancing the socioeconomic wellbeing of the local community.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Daro Assemblyman Safiee Ahmad and Member of Parliament for Igan, Ahmad Johnie Zawawi. -UKASnews
