MIRI: Sarawak is set to take the spotlight on the global scientific stage as it prepares to host the 17th International Conference on Materials Processing and Characterisation (ICMPC 2025), scheduled to take place from 27 to 29 November this year at the Imperial Hotel in Miri.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at Curtin University Malaysia on Friday, which was also attended by Mayor of Miri City and Pujut Assemblyman, Adam Yii Siew Yang.
According to Adam Yii, the hosting of ICMPC 2025 is in line with the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, particularly in the areas of talent development, building a quality workforce, and strengthening Sarawak’s innovation and technology ecosystem.
“This conference presents a valuable opportunity for students and local industry researchers to engage directly with international experts in the fields of materials processing and characterisation,” he said.
This prestigious international event is being organised by Curtin University Malaysia in collaboration with the Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology (GRIET), India, with full support from the Sarawak Government through the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
ICMPC 2025 is expected to further cement Sarawak’s position as a regional hub of academic and technological excellence, while also contributing directly to the state’s broader development goals under the 2030 vision.
